Home Projects
Pakwatan Foundation has remained responsive to the ever-demanding needs of the diverse groups of people. A constant activity to recognize needs/assess requirements is under-way, resulting in a very broad portfolio of projects undertaken by the Foundation.
The breadth of these activities goes to show the wide skill-set and resources the foundation is endowed with, despite a narrow team leading these projects. Pakwatan Foundation has remained an active, flexible and responsive organization, focusing on the needs of the people.
Pakwatan Foundation, as a not for profit organization, has focused largely on activities in Tehsil Talagang, a remote under-developed area in district Chakwal, remote areas of Sukkur, Panu Aqil, urban and suburban areas of Rawalpindi and Lahore. But we do not intend to remain limited in scope moving forward.
It is important to highlight that special care is taken to ensure that the sensitivities of the people are well considered. The Foundation ensures that people do not feel belittled in receiving assistance, and in fact the services are rendered as social responsibility rather than charity ensuring the dignity and integrity of the people.
Core segments of the activities remain as follows
Our education support program remains one of our core activities. The Management remain personally in contact with each student, and involve themselves in grooming and personality building of the students they sponsor. Frequent personal interactions and visits are also undertaken to remain abreast of the students’ needs and performance. There have been many success stories of our sponsored students. The students were from very low income strata and were leaving education as they could not afford. We sponsored them from school/ college to professional institutions and now they are financially settled / employed and are playing their roles in the society very effectively. Pakwatan Foundation is supporting around 35 students at different universities/colleges as of now. These include Government College University, Lahore, Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, SOS Village Rawalpindi, Islamic University Islamabad, Punjab University Lahore among others. The support includes payment of fees, purchase of books, laptop, accessories, and other financial assistance. In addition to financial assistance, the students are also guided in career choices, personal issues such as medical help, family /financial issues etc. Pakwatan foundation attempts to ensure that a student focuses on his/her studies and most of their personal issues are taken care of.
We are very proud to announce our most ambitious project as yet: The Academy of Excellence Wanhar. Already operational under “The Awan Foundation”, the school has 8 classes of 3 sections each several kilometers apart located in debilitated building or under construction private houses or shops in the village of Wanhar, tehsil Talagang. Pakwatan Foundation has joined hands with The Awan Foundation to build a purpose-built campus for this school, which will not only facilitate the academics, but will also serve as a self sustaining not for profit quality seat of learning for the people of the area. Presently 25 orphan students are studying free of cost and we intend to increase this number considerably. With around 650 students, the school is one of the best performing institutions in the area, despite severe lack of resources. The remarkable results of the school are reflective of the hard-work and commitment of the teachers.
To empower the Widows and alleviate poverty, the Foundation has successfully employed a novel approach: donating farm animals .Pakwatan Foundation is aware of the need to make people self-reliant especially the woman-folk. For this purpose we planned and executed a Cattle distribution program especially for the widows. We distributed more than 40 cows and 85 goats in different villages. It's an ongoing project and is highly appreciated by the women and widows of the area. More than 100 widows have benefitted from the program so far and its success in empowering widows has been remarkable.
Pakwatan Foundation regularly distributes Ration to the underprivileged and needy families. The Ration pack includes daily use of edible items including flour, rice, pulses, oil, biscuits, powdered milk etc. We have a list of Underprivileged people of the area who are provided with Ration packs as on required basis. For this purpose we work jointly with our sister organization Wanhar Welfare and other social service organizations active locally.
The initiation of the child adoption program has been dramatic. During military operations in Buner (Swat), Col Taimoor Sultan, now Senior Vice Chairman, was overcome with the loss locals faced in those troubled times. He started with adopting two kids, reportedly Orphans at the time. Through a combination of strenuous efforts and Divine intervention, their mother was traced after 5 years and the family re-grouped. The women members take special interest in this program. The program today has 12 Orphans in its care, sponsored at the SOS Village in Islamabad.
Pakwatan Foundation is actively involved with the local community especially the youth of the villages. We are also working hand in glove with the local social service organizations for the upliftment of the villages of the area. We have helped build 5 mosques including 1 Jamia masjid. We are also actively participating in the construction of Eidgah / Janaza Gah of village Wanhar along with the involvement and funding from the local community and our sister organization Wanhar Welfare, Shaheens and other local social service organizations. It will also be used as a community center for the people of the area. We plan to undertake many projects of social upliftment in future according to the need and requirement of the area/ villages.
Clothing is a necessity for every human. Pakwatan Foundation had started a clothes bank in different villages. In the beginning we were collecting used clothes as donations and got them repaired if required; dry cleaned/ washed, pressed, packed and distributed them to the needy. Now we are getting new clothes , blankets, sweaters, jackets, shawls etc and distributing them to the in-need and Underprivileged people including women and children.
The Salt Range suffers from the issue of contaminated sub-soil water. Due to this, underground water is not fit for drinking or general use. Very deep boring is needed to extract usable drinking water from beyond (300 feet) and most people do not have the technical or financial capacity to undertake this activity. Pakwatan foundation has successfully undertaken drilling of more than 40 water extraction points, providing free drinking water to hundreds of people for Residence/public places/irrigation purposes .

Looking after the sick is a demanding job. Pakwatan Foundation attempts to share the burden of the care-givers by providing food at 2 Government Hospitals . The attendants at the hospital usually do not have the resources to source food while looking after the patients. Pakwatan Foundation provides fresh cooked food to all patients, attendants and staff of the hospitals entirely free of charge, in a respectable dignified manner, under its “dastarkhwan” project. We intend to expand by providing food at Tehsil Katchery (court) as prisoners also face similar issues during hearings. More categories will be added subsequently in this activity.
Pakwatan Foundation has undertaken provision of housing to the homeless . We have helped in construction and repair of more than 60 houses. We also felt the need of people to get the old or damaged houses repaired and helped around 40 or more houses in repair or partial construction. Around 5 boundary walls were constructed for protection of houses and more than 20 houses have been repaired or partially constructed that have been damaged in torrential rains and natural calamities.

Arrangement of screened Blood is a pivotal requirement for patients of rural areas. Hospitals lack the proper facility to provide blood to trauma patients and surgery patients. Pakwatan Foundation is building a network for arrangement of blood to patients by joining hands with other locally active regional organizations. We also plan to arrange blood donation camps in the area. We are also making a website to assist blood donors and recipients.
